Why a New Employee IT Checklist?
A new hire without a working laptop on day one sets the wrong tone. A structured IT setup checklist ensures nothing is missed and the new employee is productive from hour one.
Before Day One (3-5 Days Before)
- Provision laptop with standard image
- Create email account
- Create accounts for essential tools (Slack, HRMS, project management)
- Order peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse)
- Assign desk and network access
- Apply asset tag and update registry
Day One
- Verify all equipment is working at desk
- Walk through login process
- Provide welcome document with IT policies
- Schedule 30-minute IT orientation
- Verify access to required systems
First Week
- Day-3 check-in: "Is everything working?"
- Tool-specific training if needed
- Verify mandatory security training completed
- Close onboarding ticket with summary
