Why a New Employee IT Checklist?

A new hire without a working laptop on day one sets the wrong tone. A structured IT setup checklist ensures nothing is missed and the new employee is productive from hour one.

Before Day One (3-5 Days Before)

  • Provision laptop with standard image
  • Create email account
  • Create accounts for essential tools (Slack, HRMS, project management)
  • Order peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse)
  • Assign desk and network access
  • Apply asset tag and update registry

Day One

  • Verify all equipment is working at desk
  • Walk through login process
  • Provide welcome document with IT policies
  • Schedule 30-minute IT orientation
  • Verify access to required systems

First Week

  • Day-3 check-in: "Is everything working?"
  • Tool-specific training if needed
  • Verify mandatory security training completed
  • Close onboarding ticket with summary
