Clean Desk Policy Template
Protect sensitive information with a clean desk policy. Simple rules that prevent data leaks.
Purpose
This policy establishes requirements for maintaining a clean and secure workspace to protect sensitive information from unauthorised access, theft, or accidental disclosure.
Requirements
- Lock screens: Lock your computer every time you leave your desk, even for 30 seconds.
- Clear desks: At the end of each day, file or shred all paper documents. No sensitive documents left on desks overnight.
- No sticky notes: Passwords go in the password manager, not on sticky notes.
- Secure storage: Lock confidential documents in drawers when not in use.
- Clean whiteboards: Erase whiteboards containing sensitive information at the end of meetings.
Compliance
Clean desk compliance is checked randomly. Persistent non-compliance may result in disciplinary action.
