Why a Clean Desk Policy?

Sensitive documents left on desks, passwords written on sticky notes, unlocked screens when stepping away — these small habits create big security gaps. A clean desk policy establishes simple rules that protect information and improve professionalism.

Simple Rules

  • Lock screens: Lock your computer (Win+L or Cmd+Ctrl+Q) every time you leave your desk, even for 30 seconds.
  • Clear desks: At the end of each day, file or shred all paper documents. No sensitive documents left on desks overnight.
  • No sticky notes: Passwords go in the password manager, not on sticky notes.
  • Secure storage: Lock confidential documents in drawers when not in use.
  • Clean whiteboards: Erase whiteboards containing sensitive information at the end of meetings.
